Mike J. Schmalz, MD, MPH
Pediatric Gastroenterologist
Mike J. Schmalz, MD, MPH, believes that the best pediatric care is patient focused and built around educating the whole family through clear communication. He is passionate about helping the children of our community thrive.
As a pediatric gastroenterologist, Dr. Mike specializes in the treatment of infants, children and adolescents experiencing inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), anorectal and esophageal motility disorders and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
For medical school, Dr. Mike attended The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in Dublin. He completed his residency in General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Dr. Mike went on to complete his fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at The Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and earned his Master of Public Health at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
Dr. Mike is board certified in General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. He is an active member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPG).
In his free time, Dr. Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and identical twin boys, cooking and traveling.
